The Right Thing to Do© 1998 Genea Parker

When we met I didn’t think
Things would ever go this far.
I knew about your commitments
And I know what they still are.

Your priority is your family
And will be till you die.
I understand this, and yet
Our situation makes me cry.

I never knew it would be so hard,
To walk away from you.
But I know in my heart of hearts
That it’s the right thing to do.

I release you like a butterfly
With the need to fly away,
And hope that you’ll find me again
On another summer day.

Krystal,

Thanks for the comment...but 'courage'? lol You mean for writing it? Or do u mean the speaker in the poem has it? Yes, she had courage...anyone in that position would have to i would think.
