Crayons

The young child draws in his father's favourite book.
He knows it's his favourite and wishes he was.
He draws with his thick crayons purchased at Mott's.
His interpretation of reality none other fathoms.
He loves his daddy, even after the spanking and lecture.
In time he will hate him.
Belittle him.
Ignore him.
Like him.
Love him.
Bury him.
Miss him.
Understand him, when he opens his favourite book
and finds thick, colored drawings of things he can't fathom.

Alicat, this is impressive. There is one hell of a lot of underlying meaning in this one. Great job.

I am not a father, but a mother, as you well know. I sat down to do nothing in particular this morning, whilst putting myself in a 'time-out'. Funny how things work...it seems that in my time out, I found this poem. I needed to read this today, for the cause of my self placed time out was the anger at what my daughter did...and it was not unlike something I did many many years ago to get my father's much needed attention. Thank you, does not express my appreciation right now...for the much needed reality check and wake up call.

You may be thousands of miles away, and away from home to boot...but you always seem to reach me when I need you most.
