SHADOW LAND LADY

She is real - but not really
She belongs - but not quite
Has a man - but then only
At night.

She can feel - but not fully
Dwells rarely on pride
Not alone - but she's lonely
Inside.

She's a shadow land lady;
Lives well - but she lives
On the baubles and crumbs
That a married man gives

And she thinks she is winning
Doesn't know she has lost
Till the day comes to add up
The cost.

She's a cute decoration
A small porcelain doll
And she lives like a taxi -
On call.

She's secure - but unsurely
Has a house - but no home
At his whim, she will wind up
Alone.

She's a shadow land lady
Living only at night
She can stay - if she stays out
Of sight.

And the clock keeps on ticking
Days keep moving along
Soon her youth and her life
Will be gone.

Living that way is a travesty....
The more fortunate escape those worms and live better lives - in the shadows of their former selves.....

Lipstick smears
alone again
morning arrives
it’s time for gin

In the mirror
my soul looked at me
and cried out
in antipathy

Money gained
from stranger lust
moving closer to
dust to dust.

Dang! This made my heart ache for the lady. Very strong and accurate (in my humble opinion) portrayal of a mistress. So sad, such a waste to settle for second string...

being "the other woman" isn't all bad, if it is a conscious choice

------------------
one night at the airport...Childhood Memories...your countenance...eight short weeks...My One and Only...hoarse whispers...
What will it be?...break my heart...hour after hour...serving wench...take a guess...sink or swim...stolen hours...the mistress...
companion...Perfection...a little girl...Mr. Jones...life is like...insomnia...devotion...too soon...07-20-69...craving...change...
Master...apart...pride...plain...hush...then...D/s...shameless self-promotion

I think I'm beginning to read B'deer's poetry for the comments alone. [lol] Another good one, sir, back to the top.

Balladeer,
Don't know how I missed this one but it deserves another kick. You have a mind like a steel trap.
