Empathy

I wonder if I'm real
Sometimes I can't remember why I'm here
And who sent me to this vast land?
And when not a sound is to be heard
I close my eyes and hear
I'm one of the many in this world
Playing a part that I can't explain
Seeking to find my purpuse
Afraid to know who I am
The tears I cry are not mine
They belong to those that hurt me
And when my tears dry up and fade
There will be no empathy

Once again, I feel that in this poem also that you capture the feeling well. I agree that you do speak for many...even for myself once.

Thank you Genea and Alwye, I wrote this poem late one night when I awoke from a dream I couldn't remember. So often I think alot of people feel superficial and fake, like they can't be themselves, but only a few can admit this, thank you

I think there are many who can and will identify with your poem.
I like it well enough but find there is a major contradiction.
"The tears I cry are not mine"... and:..
"And when my tears dry up and fade"
Perhaps you have a reason for this?

Wolfgang:

When I say "The tears I cry are not mine", I'm basically saying that I don't cry because of how I may feel, I cry for others when they aren't strong enough to cry for themselves. It's their tears I'm crying in essence, not mine. When the tears dry up and fade, no one will cry anymore, and they will dry up and die. This is an abstract literary view of the word empathy, a word which means a great deal to me.
