A Fading Reflection©1998 Genea Parker

I stopped to visit Grandma,
At the home where she lives now.
Her hair is still white as snow,
But she looks different somehow.

She has the same soft smile
And jolly little laugh
But her eyes are different
She’s living in the past.

She looks at me and smiles,
But she has no recollection.
The woman I see before me
Is merely a fading reflection.

Grandma doesn’t live here
She left me long ago.
This woman is a stranger
One I love but hardly know.

Some day I might be like her
Looked upon with affection
But not the woman I was -
Just a fading reflection.

The poem you wrote not only was moving to read, but it had a sense of reality to it that only one who experienced it can know.

This one is about my grandma, who is in a nursing home. She doesn't know us anymore. Makes me sad.

This is a beautiful poem indeed. I have experienced these same things, only with my grandfather, whom passed away recently. My only words of comfort is to hang on to all of your memories & reflections, for all to soon, they're gone. Best of luck!

Excellent, yet sad that someone you love is here, but so far from your reach. God bless you for seeing the light, through the darkness.
