Don't bury me in Potter's field
Amid the sad despair
Of nameless souls in unmarked graves
That rest uneasy there.

Don't lay me down without a stone
To mark the final bow
Of an actor in the play of Life
On stage deserted now.

Let one spectator call my name
And say that he knew well
The character that I portrayed
Before the curtain fell.

Although my face had never graced
Billboard or marquis,
My small bit part was played with heart
And deep sincerity.

I'd like to think, before I die,
That someone saw me passing by
And, though to Death I'll gladly yield,
Don't bury me in Potter's field.

Your poem is great, mine isn't please don't take offense

We will never bury you in Potter’s field
Amongst those broken stones
Nor lay to rest an actor of your renown
Amid those lonely bones

Spectators by the thousand will gather
And many tears shall shed
To mourn the final curtains call
to mark that you are dead

Fear not your words are marked and heeded
We know your wish is such
Besides I called Potter’s field this morning
And their prices are too much

I dug up another one, it was buried very deep, but now it's on topsoil to be admired for awhile. Great work Balladeer.

'Deer dear heart, i suppose down here in the vaults I could say anything and it's unlikely to be seen by anyone else.

This is outstanding, can't I ask for several of these to be reposted, this one is especially wonderful love.

And I'm sure they won't bury you in Potters Field, and you won't go gentle into that good night I know.

Love this one love, utterly fabulous writing
Take care
love and warm stuff
Mushy

Take back the hope you gave,- I claim
Only a memory of the same

*still digging in old forgotten realms*

The way you portray the simple feeling of dying and not wanting to be unremembered is fantastic!

You are added forever to my library!
