Sitting in a bar, staring at the wall
When I was only three feet tall
Sitting on that stool, staring at the wall
Watching daddy have a ball.

Finished school and went to work;
Gardner, painter, office clerk
But, even then, when on my climb
I always seemed to find some time...for

Sitting in a bar, staring at the wall
A drink or two don't hurt at all
Sitting on that stool, staring at the wall
Drinking courage to meet Life's call.

The business grew. The business failed.
Health grew short. Skin wrinkled and paled.
A marriage came. A marriage went.
Just couldn't believe the time I spent

Sitting in a bar, staring at the wall
An occasional fling. An occasional brawl.
Sitting on that stool, staring at the wall
While spring turned to summer, then to fall.

Rest of my life ain't got no better.
Much as I tried, I can't forget her.
A year or two, I guess I'll die.
Got nothin' left and that is why....I'm

Sitting in a bar, staring at the wall
Brain consumed by alcohol.
Just sitting on that stool, staring at the wall
Waitin' for Life's final call.

Balladeer, another fine one. Please excuse the repost:

Miranda on Sunday

Sitting alone on an old wooden stool
By the small Tiki bar at the side of the pool
She's been sitting there drinking all afternoon,
Alone but not lonely, who's she trying to fool?

She comes here quite often on Sundays of late
A hotel on the boardwalk that's less than first rate
She comes for the drinks; she's not out for a mate
No one's out for her either, she know it's her fate

She waves to a couple she sees all the time
And the couple waves back, a young pair in their prime
She orders Corona with one slice of lime
The bartender brings it; she tips him a dime

She sits there till sunset, not making a sound
And longs for the days when the boys came around
‘til a lifetime of sorrows are thoroughly drowned
Then shuffles away with her eyes to the ground.

Admirably done, Fred. Miranda and my guy should get together. They would be a great team, bar none.

Oh, my! Two of our most astounding story-telling talents just introduced themselves... We should be in for a real treat, people, just watching these two exchange favorites!

Ron

p.s. Fred, Miranda is *still* one of my all-time favorites!

the first stanza reminded me of time spent with dad, luckily, i didn't take after him, though i spend too much time in front of my computer, a different kind of compulsive trait i guess

I was looking for something to send to someone as a card and look what I found!  Excellent Michael, and fit the bill for what I needed for someone tonight perfectly.  Where is fh now?

Glad it fit your bill, miss.

Fred just sorted of faded away which is a shame because the man has a world of talent. I have always missed not seeing him around....
