The mountain stood within my sight
With jagged peaks that reached so high
They hid the twinkling stars at night
Embedded in the summer sky.

And, high upon the mountain's face
Clear waterfalls cascaded down
The side until they reached the base
To water fruit trees in the ground.

So held in awe, so struck was I
By this stone monument I spied
I bid my hill a fond farewell
And journeyed to the mountain's side.

But, as I stood there at the base,
The mountain did not seem so high.
It's trees were barren, void of fruit
And water falls ran dry.

Then, as I stared into the night
Across the lonesome valley floor,
A mountain stood within my sight...
The hill I'd known before.

Now, sitting on that valley floor,
I am forced to pay the cost
For the hill that I thought mountainous
And the mountain that I lost.

Beautiful! We have no such mountains here in the desert...just small bumps in the ground. I enjoyed my trip, via your words, to a wondrous place. Great poet, Balladeer!

Yes--The old saying "Greener Pastures" -
And you have said it so beautifully.

This just shows, the grass is NOT always greener. Also, when we put a person on a pedestal, the only way they can go, is down.

Wonderful... I enjoyed reading this, as I do all of your poetry.

Also... Genea, I agree with you!

You've done it again, Dear Balla! Very nicely executed (not to mention a pretty darned important message, too). Nice going.

Hapiness is a three foot putt, but so much sweeter when sunk from eighteen. Once agian, I bow to the hand that writes with such insight. Also, thanks very much for the read and response on my own works.

I had to bring this up. Reminded me a bit of home.
