With the passing of our "Kacy" midnitesun, I thought  how it would have been if she could have
known how much she was loved with poems before she passed. I thought of this as Marge passed too.

Often we wait to express our gratitude, our love,
until it is too late, and I thought an idea would be to honor one poet a month from our pages, like
have a page, poet of the month, telling their story,
likes and dislikes. Maybe we could start a chain poem or leave comments about this person how they have touched your life with their friendship or poetry, etc.

We need to lift eachother up, and encourage eachother, it is times such as loss, opens our
hearts and minds to seeing the good in people.
Maybe we could do it on their birthday, honor them,
have a page or link to do it that way, If anyone has any ideas, this is just a thought, I don't know if anyone has posted this before in this forum, my apologies if it has already been asked.

Thanks for listening,

Tell me what you think?

I was watching on the news, about a young man who went into the service and was killed, and then they honored him by naming something after him at his school, in wrestling because that is what he loved.

I thought then, why didn't they do it when he could have been around to enjoy that?

I agree with you about honoring and loving while they are here.

I don't know about the poet of the month, but I do think something like that would be really nice.

Yes I agree M,

There should also be like a form or page
when we join to put an email of a family member to contact after we pass, or maybe when we join, have a short questionaire and a pic that we would want posted if we were to die, so we could make Nans job a little easier trying to get up with everyone and collect the information.

After all, the poets who have passed helped to build this site, one poem at a time, with their hearts and souls. Keeping the pages alive, going, forums filling up.

none of us know when our last poem will be posted....

I'd really reconsider that one if I were you.

As far as honoring them, Nan has put together a wonderful page for our departed friends with the ability to leave comments that can be read by the surviving family. It is an excellent vehicle to show how highly regarded the person was to the members of the site.

Poet of the month? There are poetry sites that do that and it's not a bad idea. The downside is that it can make it sort of a contest and has the ability to cause hard feelings. Believe me, I've seen it happen more than once.

I understand where you are coming from, Romantic One, and I know you're heart is in the right place. The best idea, though, is to honor and praise them while their eyes can still see and their ears can still hear them. We all go through self-recriminations after the loss of friends or loved ones with a "Why didn't I tell them while they were alive..." frame of mind. We always show incredible support when we learn in Announcements that someone is having problems. THAT is the right time to matter. SHould they not survive, Nan's page shows the family how much we cared very adequately.

Let someone know how much you care.....today.

I like the sound of that.  A good example is Meadowmuse who made a great contribution to Passions in Poetry, but who probably won't make it onto the "Passions in Peace" page only because there is no informer about her.

It would be great to honour her in some way so future members would be more aware of her poetry and contribution.  There are and will be no doubt quite a few other poets like that whose condition we don't and may never know about, but who surely still deserve to be honoured.

I can appreciate the goodness of what you are trying to suggest here but I disagree with highlighting any given poet monthly actually.  By honoring one poet a month, you would not live long enough to honor them all on this site.   I have been at a site where this was done, and it raised nothing but dissension between those wishing to be in the limelight, and the selection committee. I would rather enjoy the harmony that resides at this site.  I prefer to honor each one you by taking the time to comment on your poetry.

I think just like poetry, which should be first something you do for yourself, and then share with others, our private lives, or the end of them is a very personal thing.  I would truly be offended if the types of questions you stated were asked on an application form.  I think as you get to know people behind the scenes, there is always someone who knows, don't you?

Nan has done a great job of creating a memorial page for the poets who have passed on at this site, that we can all visit, and their families and friends can be proud of.

Ess,

My brother wasn't here much at Passions because he was at the beginning of his illness when he joined. But he did contribute, just as Meadowmuse has done, and he was part of us, just as Meadowmuse remains to be a part of us as well.

Even though we can't or will always contribute, those who keep close[r] tabs on us will always be knowledgeable in letting our PiP friends know of anything major in our lives.

But as Mike said, and paraphrased,

let them know, now

I was meaning this suggestion from my heart,
and maybe poet of the month was not the right choice of words, could be weekly? like, get to know our poets page, or forum.
I wasn't meaning to make poets stand out or get an ego, but to draw us closer in getting to share and know eachother more. New poets without being friends or knowing anyone here, a page like this would be helpful for them as well.
Nan does a great job, I wasn't meaning anything other than try to bring some unity.
I wish there was a page I could go to that had Kacys information, and others, like reading about her family, or her favorites, the same with WhiteDove, Marge, some I knew little, and would have liked to know more like a biography page I guess. A little story about their life, how they started writing poetry, their favorite poet, if they have pets etc.
Then down the page, you could leave a poem for them, or something.
That is one of the many downfalls of the internet, the misunderstanding of the human heart, words without seeing the expression of them.
Balladeer , yes you did seem to know what I was trying to say, it was after all, from the goodness of my heart, and I do tell the ones I love, each and every day, sometimes twice a day how much I love them.

I know exactly what you were trying to say, dear lady. You were speaking from the heart and we all know it. Losses like this make us wish we had done more and make us want to do more in the future for others.

No doubt Nan tries to get in touch with the families whenever possible to extend our condolences, point out the Passions in Peace forum, and ask them if there is any information or facts they would like to have added. Aside from that, there's not much we can do. You can go there and leave whatever comment you like to respect her memory for her family, friends and fellow Pipsters to read. We do our best....
