1st - why can't you use the spell check on whatever word processor you may use?

2nd - an automatic spell check only takes one partway there - as good as they are, spell checkers often ignore or misinterpret syntax and inevitably will fail to catch homophones (getting better there, though)

at the end of the day, the only true way to assure that your work is presented as it "should" be is to review it yourself and perhaps ask another to review as well.

not, i admit, that _I_ do that all too often...

You have the ability to 'self-edit' your post for up to 24 hours here~
After that time period it is necessary to ask a moderator/administrator to do it for you~

There are 'reasons' why this is and should, be~

As for spell-check ... writers have so many tools at their fingertips to spell-check their work~

There IS a link at the top of the POSTING page that you can used to check the spelling of words before posting~

One can also post your piece in your Outlook Express email program (with spell-check enabled) ... spell-check it and then copy, paste and post it here~

It takes a LOT of bandwidth space to include a spell-checker ... shucks, it doesn't even work that well on many poetic pieces ... cause we poets have a tendency to poeticize words (that often means to MAKE UP WORDS) to fit our rhyming needs~

I agree with william though. With my failing eyesight and general predisposition to laziness, I thought it would be nice, and it seems to be an agreeable feature as Ron and others (and I agree) have stated emphatically that words spelled incorrectly are a great distraction.

Then there are just some words that are misspelled so often many don't even realizing they are not spelled correctly. (I am thinking of devine for divine, and I also have problems with seperate, etc.)

And sure, I can and do proofread, and edit, but I figure a place that has word filters could incorporate a little convenient feature, available at most other sites.

But it ain't some huge thing for me, and I ain't up for six more years of annoying poor Ron, so, laughing...I exit with a shrug.

There is no need to use a spellchecker.  Just write as carefully as possible and if you have any doubt about a word look it up in the dictionary.

Nah, I have to agree with those other guys.  A spell checker would really make it easier for us.  I mean yes it may misinterpret things, but we can look over afterwords.  However, just to have the covenience of having it right there and not having to go to another application is great.  I mean sometimes I don't type my poems on another application, I just do it on the poetry board.  So to have a spell checker is an excellent idea, and takes away the worry of having a word spelled wrong.

Peace. Love. Forgiveness.
