Who knows if its just me but im getting kinda tired of the icons we have right now that go next to our posts...i was wondering if maybe we can add some new ones in for a lil bit of a change?

hmmm I see what you mean, I used to use the red and black butterfly and then i switched to the dove and now im ready for a new icon but i dont see any that really stand out to me.

Well, we've got a little 'dragon'
as cute as they come
It's #72 of the available icons~

Perhaps a frog or two
could be had
Maybe even one
sitting on his pad~

We've got lots of critters
but not even one DAWG do I see
So perhaps it's time
to add to the menagerie !

Quite some time ago, I asked for an American flag.
I never got a response. I'd still like to see that.
Perhaps a small selection of flag icons, even,
since we have members from so many places.

How about an icon for a renaissance man?
A guy, faceless, in the shadows,
with a white and grey background, perhaps?
Maybe looking like he's moving, heading foward... perhaps with a pendulum or book or pen in his hand? Hmm... I'm beginning to like this idea.

actually the playboy bunny seems oddly appropriate for the adult forum, but there's one problem - the symbol itself is trademarked, owned, and zealously protected by Playboy Enterprises, Inc..... and trademark infringement is a real quick way to make netpoets.com go away, permanently.
let's try to avoid that, shall we?

Uh, can we talk? (Joan Rivers, eat your heart out!) I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade, but there's a few issues to consider.

We can't actually "delete" any existing icons, though we can "replace" them with others. If we delete one, without putting another in its place, we'll have "holes" in any pages that were using them. Messy.

The icon file names are 01.gif through 90.gif, and the only thing necessary to add more is to name them from 91.gif onwards and dump them in the same directory. Needless to say, they should all be about the same in terms of width and length and should be pretty small in terms of file size (most are less than 1K).

I'm a little concerned about adding too many, because the "See the icons" link will show them ALL and that can be a little difficult for some of the older computers. Each image eats up a few bytes of Window's resource memory and when it's gone, the computer has a nasty tendency to freeze solid. If we can find someone here with an older system, maybe we can enlist their help to test how many icons are optimum?

I've been looking and there are WAY too many flags out there. I don't think flags are a good idea.

And to be honest, I only saw 3 existing icons that aren't used much. The rest are all pretty popular.

I would think adding about 10 would be sufficient. I've found a cool sun...a bunny..a slice of pizza...(and the Celtic knot that Mysteria likes) and that's after looking at hundreds...I think they have to be 'universal' and should appeal to more than just a couple of people.

I'll put together a collection and send it off to you Ron.

Is my idea plausible? I work well with computers, but creating an icon is beyond my means. Does anyone know if it could be done?
