I was just thinking, there is a top 500 posters but it strictly based on Quantity, not on quality. I know that this theme actually stirrs up the crowd and makes discussions and creates some tension for people always want to be #1, but I guess that recognition of quality is essencial for this site. Aside from all the Tension or competition it may cause, it also may inspire, and create a sort of friendly competition between our friends here in Piptalk.I guess that this list of top(quality not quantity) posters  could be decided by the moderators of each Forum and this list could have a section in the site. I guess the terms could be depending on what comes of this, in a month the best poem decided jointly by the moderators.

Another suggestion I can make is like threw the course of a year they could be sort of awards and recognitions here in piptalk. Like best teen poster, or best Poem or something. I think this would help this site develop and grow, not to mention it may inspire members to stay longer as members and keep posting.

Just a little suggestion for the moderators, hope something comes out of this.

We've actually talked about a 'Spotlight' Forum for showing off our best work. But deciding on how to choose the work is the sticking point. But we are so glad for your input!! Thank you....

Voices on the Web, our first published volume of Passions in Poetry is just that - a book of our best works, actually voted upon and determined by our general populace.  We haven't, however, done the same in an ongoing forum as yet..

As beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, it might be difficult to sort through the volume of open forum posts and isolate the top quality poems. What criteria to use? Visual impact/presentation?
Flow, cadence, meter, rhyme? Feelings/emotions ? Unique imagery? Difficulty/uniqueness of subject matter?
I like to pick and choose for myself, and after reading several posts by each writer, I tend to have a feel for whether or not I'll read their future posts if I'm at all pressed for time. Hate to say it, but sometimes it comes down to time or the lack therof. Yet some days, I'll go first to the newest poets or even the ones with few "hits"
and give them some extra time and attention. I don't want or expect people to "line up" at my door just because I've made them smile or laugh or cry in the past (though it's nice to see reader replies  ) I love it when someone sees or feels what I meant, and just as often enjoy a different POV, one I may not have intended. And each week, I try to find some way to improve my writing.
Now I am just rambling on and on. The idea for an Open Forums Favorites, picked by moderators, readers, etc might be fun. That sounds like a daunting task!!!
Thanks for the inspiring Suggestion thread.

I agree, Something should be done about this. To recognize poets  for their quality and not the amount of their poems.

As a relatively new member (with only 2 posts) WrathChild, what would you suggest? Something that's not difficult to do...so no one person has to make a decision? It's easy to say 'yeah do this'..but to actually sit down and plan it out - with all the criteria is another. Believe me with all the different styles and levels of poetry here at Passions, it is NOT easy to just say we'll recognize quality. So...let's see what YOU all suggest as criteria and how can it be implemented.

Well yes, I'm new here, but it was just a suggestion nothing more, maybe the criteria might be by forums, or by themes, like Love, or other themes. I guess that moderators or Administrators can be judges. Just a suggestion nothing more. :-)

A thought ... set a forum for what the admin's and mod's find as the best work in whatever categories, for a preset time period. From here let the members vote by replying. Those with the better response receive the award. You can establish a voting system for the members by using certain icons or just using stars (five stars being the highest). You can even do awards for just teens, for most responses to other posts .... the world would be yours to judge.
I think you would receive more memberships but it would mean more for the members you have to know their work is recognized by so many others .... kind of like the "click" in an earlier discussion, one would know their work is viewed and enjoyed.

Only a thought, hope it is of some help.

I will reiterate what I said before. Although guidelines and a forum with examples of "fine" poetry might be interesting and helpful, I rather enjoy being my own decision maker as to what is pleasing and emotionally inspiring. I love the free sharing and the give-and-take at the open forums, and prefer this format over the often judgmental classroom setting. Most of my poetry comes straight from the heart, and is often spontaneous generation...or combustion. LOL, many of mine are combustible.
I guess what I am saying is, the forum is great as it is, and I don't really care how many or how few posts I see from any  particular poet, nor do I really concern myself with what others think about any given poem. The poem has to "stand" on its own, no matter who wrote it.
Just my thoughts.
