i noticed that a great number of posts don't get replied to and wonder if we couldn't leave one day aside(maybe the first day of every month) allocated to replying only....posting will be forbidden on that day and perhaps more posts will receive more comments because people may not be caught up with posting their own?

just a suggestion

Other sites have a rule that you must reply to at least 2 poems to every one you post... I don't think that can be inforced unless there's a timer our counter set on the poet's username.

We've had this problem since the inception of Passions...but if you look at other poetry forums, you'll see that we are by far the best for replying period. A lot of sites have zeroes for almost EVERY post!

If we can get a concensus, maybe this will work on a volunteer basis...we can always hope.

I'd like to hear from other members too. (Good idea!!)

The best way to get a suggestion such as this is to follow through with examples.....

I love this suggestion...Maybe like every first and 15th of the month

I think that the majority of members come to this site to
#1 post the poetry they've written
and #2 to read the poetry posted by others.
To write poetry is a pleasure - but posting  poetry is not mandated.
To read poetry is a pleasure - but a reply is not mandated.

I liken it to going to the bookstore - browsing the shelves -
deciding what you do or do not wish to purchase -
placing the book you don't wish to purchase back on the shelf -
and purchasing the book you've chosen.

Now if the bookstore told me I couldn't BUY the book
on the first day of the month ... I'd find another bookstore.

It isn't a matter of the number of replies a posted poem gets
that matters here ...
it's about the writing and sharing of poetry.

It's about reading - and replying if you wish.

I don't believe that a restricted posting day
could possibly enhance Passions.
Some poetry is going to get read more often -
and replied to more often ...
for the same reasons that some books are bought more often at the bookstore ... because they are the choice of the reader/buyer.

By focusing on the number of replies, I feel that the emphasis is taken away from the poetry.

In my opinion, this type of restriction isn't necessary
to accomplish more participation in replies.
I believe most of the participants here do reply
to at least two others each time they are on.

There are members who only have time
(expense of online time being a factor)
to post a poem or two ... and reply to a few.

The interaction of courteous members here covers the broad spectrum of the boards quite nicely.

Thanks for the opportunity to air my views on this matter.

i think this is a great idea...cause there are so many post in a day period and a lot of great poems are gone unread...and if one day(at least) was left to reply "only"...i really think lot of great poets will get acknolwedged for their heartfelt work through their poetry or maybe also having like you have to reply to at least...(25 poems) or something...hehe...anyways...great idea!!...faterider

i think this would be a great idea only if it was inforced, personally i try replying to a majority of the poems (atleast in teen #4), but sumtimes i just dont have the time.  but i would gladly do the whole 1st of the month idea!!!

i think your argument is very sound reasoning, marge...

i agree totally but just want to comment:

its rather hard to comment on other people's poetry when you see little responses to your own

and yup, i was that petty before

just because you don't see replies, doesn't mean it isn't read..there are other sites that count how many times a poem is viewed..but I am not posting there anymore..there are other sites that require no  replies..but I am not posting there..I am posting here on passions because I feel it is the best  and fairest site around.. I haven't even been here one year yet..this question of not enough replies has been raised  probably more times than some have replied to others outside of their little "cliques"...

post to express...read to enjoy or learn...don't guarantee responses...even a day won't make a difference...the same "popular"  poets  will get the same majority of responses...the no  bumping rule hasn't changed things either..although I think we are finally adjusted to it now. Sometimes when it isn't broken  you shouldn't try to fix it....And like others said...if you want more..respond more yourself. Personally I am getting used to not as many responses..but I know I am read. And I know I read everyone...even if I don't respond. Sometimes the responses to some look  like a chat room and that is what the other forums are for on here..the feelings..discussions etc..family ones. Your idea at least will awaken some to try and respond more often. I often search out the 0's and 1's and  let the others go and I know poets are probably wondering why I am snubbing them..but I am not..I am trying to make others not feel as you do. Thank you for the chance to have my opinion expressed on the subject. *s
