that a lot of people use the same Icon on every post that they make, and often use the same style every time they post (color, font, alignment). I was thinking that you could just make these cookies so that, for those who wish it, don't have to change everything back to the way they like it every  time the make a new post or reply to one.

It is, indeed, a good idea. And it was one of the major reasons for implementing the Login screen in the new software.

If you'll stop to think about it, for such a feature to work reliably the system needs to be able to "recognize" you even before you post. The old software couldn't do that. The Login screen (and the multitude of hooks on every other screen) was put in place the last time I rewrote the software to find out if the system "could" be taught to recognize you everywhere. And, uh, it seems to be doing a pretty good job.

Now, if I could only find the time for another major rewrite…
