How about a forum for kids---I've got a little mini-me running around the house with a notebook here...if she could post her work, she just might let me read...(mom is pouting...)  of course, I can and will let her post anyway, just thought that it would be great if kids could also get feedback from their peers...and hopefully there could be an appropriate monitor, who could also help the children develop their art...hmmm....I know your hands are full right now, Ron, but do mull this one over a bit....

I think this is a great idea....I'm sure that a lot of us have children that write and would love to get some feedback.....as long as it is closely monitored

A new law was just put in place 'The COPPA Law'. This puts the onus on any website for the information taken from kids under the age of 13 and is very difficult to enforce.

Check out this post that I put in the Teen Mentor Lounge...it's scary!

sigh...Being on line is not something I allow my children to do alone...in fact, there is not too much I allow my children to do alone...I guess what I was hoping for was a place where my daughter could find a place to express herself...couldn't this be done through the supervision of the parents, with no profiles accessible?  I am open to alternatives...what do I do with this little girl who wants to post poetry, just like mom?

I suppose it could be a restricted forum? But we'd have to get verification that the child had parental approval...

perhaps it could be limited to children of people already in the forum....say an adult "sponsor" of the child, complete with adult password, making the adult responsible for replies, posted...thus insuring supervision, hopefully...with more stringent moderation of replies and content which would include a no-no to too much personal information...which would also be a good "primer" for parents to teach the kids about how to interact responsibly on the internet.  I admit, I did not think of all the possible ramifications...my daughter simply wanted to know, "why can't I?"  and I am wondering, "why can't she?"   Admittedly,
there is much to think about.

But look at it this way, if the child can use a computer (and most can that live in a house with one), what would prevent them from getting online and posting? If your cookies get you into the adult forum and your child logged on, they would also get into Adult. Perhaps any adult wishing their child to have access would never be able to visit the Adult forum?

If the password were issued to an adult, then the child could not log on, without the adult's supervision...thus putting the responsibility of safety and supervision, where it belongs, upon the parent/guardian.  Can we try this on icq?
