I'd like to see a new forum category entitled,

Haiku, Senryu and Tanka

for obvious reasons.

There are many of these type poems in Open, Gene. I'm not sure that a seperate Forum is needed for them. There are many forms of poetry in the different Forums. I'm not sure what the reasoning is to have a different Forum for this one particular form. Just curious as to the 'obivious reasons', as they aren't obvious to me. I don't think it would be feasible to have different forums for all the different styles or forms of poetry, which to me seems to be the next logical step in this reasoning. Just my opinion!

Denise

p.s. do you have any more of those 'shortest poems' up your sleeve? They are delightful!

I've seen other poetry forums that have separate forums for these types of poetry. So far at Passions, there are only a few that regularly write these......if there is enough interest, it could be feasible. But we've had other 'specific' forums that just don't get the posts/replies that Open does.

But then, you never know! Keep those ideas coming!

It was just a suggestion. I think these three types are very special and deserve a separate area, just like free verse is different from rhyme.

I became interested in haiku recently--it's the zen in me, I guess. I see a lot of interest by a few others also and thought maybe we could delve into it deeper. Most people don't understand haiku. I've seen many attempts at it--some very good--some not so good--and some, just not quite getting it. Maybe some people think it might be childish to write what seems like short insignificant little nothings. Actually, in its simplicity, it's really quite complex and the child-like nature within it's complexity, is what makes such beatiful zen. It's done wonders for my writing. It's kind of like, just before an artist creates a great work, he first sketches his thoughts on a napkin. Many of my poems came about from a little haiku sketch, so to speak.

I just think there's an awful lot to learn from haiku and would like to see more done with it.

If you are interested, Gene, on page two of the Poetry Workshop Forum, Nan held a workshop on these forms. Just thought you might like to check it out.....some wonderful poems in there!
