Like a designer drug you rush my veins.
With an addict's madness my blood does burn.
To my love and despair you hold the reins.

Simple faith my longing for you sustains.
Romantic overtures you sometimes spurn.
Like a designer drug you rush my veins.

My tears for you flow like warming spring rains.
In spite of myself your love I did earn.
To my love and despair you hold the reins.

Hot-blooded rages your soothing touch drains.
My innate distrust I strive to unlearn.
Like a designer drug you rush my veins.

Learning to love broke emotional chains.
To call you my own I will always yearn.
To my love and despair you hold the reins.

When life falls into dust only love remains.
Your love for me became hard to discern.
Like a designer drug you rush my veins.
To my love and despair you hold the reins.

This melodic peace is breathtaking. Reminiscint of a love past. Of a dream longing to be heard. Of a heart yearning to be completed. Excellent work....

dreamEvil,
A difficult subject in a difficult form you did well for a Villanelle. Enjoyed the read.

Well, I don't have the slightest what a Villanelle is, but I must say this is a very touching poem. I knew you had it in yourself to write like this. I'd like to see it more often. It is refreshing to see a love poem so different in this day and age of cliches..(which i dearly love mind you)

Yeah Dream, life can be intense when your drug of choice is an emotion, but hey, it makes for one heck of a ride. Fasten your belts, i'm in on this one with ya!

Wonderful poem, Dream. I enjoy good love poems a lot, but it is so rare that I see one. And this was amazing, especially in this form. There are too few love poems without the birds chirping, pink roses, my heart beats only for you BS. (Not to say those are all bad things, but when a poem becomes a bland collection of mushy images.....you get the point)

Anyway sorry for rambling. Excellent piece.
