a sigh echoes in the stifling earth
and a suffocating breath of wind ripples hot across the grass
and trickles through the tree leaves
here the hot smell of summer
lingers around the form of a girl
lying in the sunbath-
a heated victim of the burning air.

she stirs on the dry grass
as a cloud passes over the sky's light.
the world darkens for a moment.
she shivers,
and is still.

I like this, Mark. I could feel the dry heat of summer through your words.

It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
