This is a small collection of poems, from a newcomer, as a short introduction. Not quite my normal style, any of them, but then what style is normal?

So straight to it then...
Number 1

Ever noticed the pleasure
Of discovering someplace new
Of visiting a foreign environment
And making it part of yourself?

This is the rapture known by pioneers
This is the drug which drove them
Forced them to go forward
And brought man to the present.

And now these prospects are gone.
Travelling the world is taken for granted
And mans greatest joys are jaded
At least, to some minds

We need look deeper for discovery now
Rather than searching the world
We must search within ourselves
To find the paradises we seek.

And there are many
Innumerable
Inconceivable
Paradises
To be brought to the world.
From infinite others

Number 2

Light and darkness
Good and evil
Saints and sinners
Black and white.

Have you ever seen black?
An honest colour.
Light’s complete absence.
A hole into infinity

White…. The colour of purity
And of fools
All yet none.
Excluding but it’s antithesis,

Harsh day
Comforting night
Constrained saints
Free sinners

These are mere barriers
Extremes defining truth
The ends of an infinite string.
And the beginnings of a path to nowhere.

Sun and moon
Entirely different conceptions
Exactly the same light
One is One.

Have you decided yet where the difference lies?
Have you recognized yet what shapes our sight?
Do you see why two people can see the same image
But view opposing pictures?

The scenery doesn’t change.
But the viewpoint does
And the conceptions do.
As the observers do.

The same applies for sense and insanity
For pleasure and pain
And for strength…. And weakness.
Love and hatred..?

And then, of course, number 3

Through the eyes of the demon
The world was black and charred
He understood and learnt to thrive
And he was pleased.

Through the eyes of the angel
Life was green and bounteous
But she knew death and decay
And she was saddened.

Through the eyes of the demon
What was alive could easily be murdered
Allowing him complete control of his wasteland
And he was content

Through the eyes of the angel
Her paradise could only survive
If left to it’s own devices
And her only power was observation.

Through the eyes of the demon
His world’s evil was his own
And his world’s pain his influence
And he reveled in his power

Through the eyes of the angel
The violence she viewed was nature
And her world’s rot it’s own doing
And she wept in commiseration

Through the eyes of the demon
Fire was the best way to cleanse
Destruction the only route to creation
And he wrought rampantly.

Through the eyes of the angel
Fire was the only resort
The last option to recreate
But she could not overcome her empathy.

Through the eyes of the demon he was victor.
Through the eyes of the angel she was victim.
Both may be right
Yet both know themselves wrong.
And so the battle rages on.

QuickBeam~
I guess two years is a long time to get your first response to such a lovely piece of work.
I was dipping into the archives and found this talented offering~

Hope you're still out there to know someone enjoyed it~
