I’d like to write a tribute to a man that I admire.
The best ex-something a girl, ever could acquire.
I can not call him ex-husband for never were we wed.
Can not call him ex-boyfriend for fear would be misread.

For he is more then either, would rather call him friend.
There for all life’s trials, someone on whom I can depend.
I remember when I met him, I was pregnant with a child
he asked if he could feel her move, I remember how he smiled.

I was just a young girl, unwed mother left alone,
didn’t know how to raise a child, for I was barely grown.
That’s been about 10 years ago, we later had a son.
He’s supportive and understanding, a better father, there is none.

He loves his son, loves his daughter, though their blood is not the same.
He would die for both of them, so what matters in a name?
We share the truest of joint custody, a week they spend with each.
We tried the every other weekend, no compromise could we reach.

He loves his kids, he wants them near, how could I deprive this man
of sharing his life with his children and doing all he can.
So here’s a tribute to a good guy, as a Daddy he’s a winner.
It takes more to be a father then just contributing the fastest swimmer.

Could this be a tribute to Toerag????
I think not! (I hate to brag),
For these praises all can see
Are given for someone a lot like.... me...

well, almost like me... give or take a dozen or two minor wrinkles lil Lorelei is ironing out even as I write.

A nicely thought out poem, Lucie.

Great stuff Lucie...you got it ALL in there.
Story, sadness, love, joy, sorrow...then to top it all...THAT LAST LINE..HAHAHA...very funny! (I thought a few more might have GOT that)

Great Poem Lucie! Yep, fatherhood don't stop at conception. Too bad a lot of them think it does. A good man to be a daddy and take interest in those kids. That is nice to hear! God bless ya both!

Lucie: Love the poem... sounds like you've got a great friend even if the romantic relationship didn't work! Great friends aren't easy to find... and are to be treasured!

A good read Lady Lucie. You and your family are fortunate to have as much. I particularly liked the last stanza and the last couplet. How true it is.

Great read, Lucie. Your kids are very lucky to have a man like that in their life.

Hey Luc....finally had time to read this......no wonder he wants to frame it. He IS a great father, friend, and the Best of the Best! I know he will always be there for you. Very well done.....(I need lessons)
Could you send me a couple of good ideas. Oh, and then write them for me ,too. Chuckle....
