My Mom has alzheimers and I write poetry about continuously, reaching out for someway to heal from having to watch her suffer so. When I visit her now she normally reaches out and touches my face, without saying a word, I know she still cares.

I Still Feel The Touch

I still feel the touch of my mothers` hand
A feeling I could easily understand
She laid her hand upon my face
Smiled as she held it there in place
I still feel the touch so soft and warm
She knew I was there and meant no harm
She has no idea that Iím her child
I still feel the touch so meek and mild
A gentle lady so quiet, so still
Wished she could tell me if she were ill
Bundled in cover from her head to her feet
Waiting for supper and a special treat
As I fed her supper I let her know
That I was there for her and I loved her so
She finished her meal and laid real quiet
As if she were saying "you have a good-night"
Mom, oh mom I love you so
I hate to leave but I have to go
Thatís when she reached out her soft little hand
I still feel the touch and I do understand.

I love you, Mom

Your mom sounds like my mum..

She suffered with Altzheimers for several years but she was the beauty in my heart, the beauty in my eyes but slowly she faded away...Depending on the tableau they have reached, depends on so many things: the way they say, my daughter will be here soon to you and then the tears when they realise that is YOU and the way YOU try to ease their pain...This lady died a little while ago but will always live in my heart for the love she gave to me, her gentleness, the way she cared...she truly was an outstanding lady of the very best kind...

To be truthful, she wasn't my mum but my mother in law, but that was only a title...

If you want to talk with me, or share..I'm here...

Big, very big HUGS

Sylvia, Firstly I send big (HUGS) your way too. My grandfather died of Alzeimer's..it is such a cruel disease not only for the patient of course, but for the family and loved ones. In my opinion, rest assured in some part of her, your mother knows it you and loves you as much as ever..

I too, have experience with this
disease. I too, have tears for you.

Thank you so much for sharing this
with us. It was beautifully written.
