When we were each others, hand holding hand,
I held a contentment which paled all desires
and I knew what peace was.
Touching lips, breathing her into my soul,
I was forever changed
and I knew eternity was found within a present moment.
Our bodies, when as one, acted out in form
the formless unity of what we so intimately loved.
When we were each others,I knew all worth knowing.
I knew that which all else
must only serve.

"I held a contentment which paled all desires"

What a wonderful claim. This is a lovely sentimental poem, Paul, though I think I would make a few small editorial changes to make it flow more smoothly.....

won't though......it rings true the way it is!

Thanks Hoot...I so well remember the inspiration for this poem and she took my breath away too!
Pepper...Thanks for the kind words and the bump in the night.
Beki...I know what ya' mean about the flow.It is a valid point. In this case though, I wanted the ideas themselves to be crystal-clear,hoping that they alone would provide the poetic raison d'etre.However,-
I absolutely welcome such in-depth comments from you (et all)as they make for stimulating and helpful literary discourse.
Do continue and thanks.

Hugs to all,

Paul

Your words here are as if I had spoken them myself ! "Peace"...and "breathing her into my soul".....I've often referred to these phrases in my own poetry, and in real life. I do see true love as a peace, a calm, contentment. Those 3 are so hard to come by in this world which we live. So to me they are more precious than gold, silver, and rubies.....Thank you once again.
