We've had our legends,
You've all heard of them,
Caruso and Pavarotti,
But when great has gone, and he's equal or surpassing them.

His name is Freddie Mercury,
He was the lead singer of Queen,
He lived 1946 - 1991,
One of the finest that's ever been.

He too could hit those startingly high notes,
He sung with such depth of passion,
His lyrics so true not all fantasy,
He even had good taste in fashion.

He bought my senses alive,
I reveberated within my soul,
He was also a leader in showmanship,
Before a life of excesses took it's toll.

I'd had this dream that one day I would be so lucky,
To fly to London and jam with him,
Two singers sharing their passion, their soul,
But his flame began to dim.

He contracted aids such a harrowing and wasting disease,
But right up until the end,
He pushed himself to the limit,
Knowing he wouldn't mend.

The songs he wrote towards the end,
Told of the pain and suffering in his heart,
Told how he always felt different,
His life was somehow destined for this from the start.

So perhaps if you listen to Queens' Greatest Hits Volume 2,
You'll see and hear the passion and talent of which I'm trying to explain,
And I hope he is remembered as a great,
His music was not in vain.

For me at least the legend lives on..

I read it!!! And I'm repling too! I haven't heard them in quite some time now, but years ago I used to listen to them. I didn't know he passed on. Well done!

Thanks WhtDove, he passion and lyrics have always moved me, the fact he died back in 1991 didn't change a thing!
