Rock Me To Sleep

Three thousand miles
And mountains, lakes and valleys
Of longing between us

I go to work, as you go to bed
You, dreaming of making love
As I write poetry in my mind
Wishing I were there with you

The sun rises in the east
As you sail uncharted waters in the west
The ocean rocking you gently
Reminding you of me
And on the deck of the ship
You stare out into the sea
As the ocean mist softly caresses your face

Oh, how I envy the sea
Rocking you to sleep in it’s body each night
It’s wetness clinging to your skin by day
While I on another coast
Lay dreaming of you

I long to fit into your arms
Like a ship in water
Being rocked to sleep,
Utterly safe in the breakers
But for now, I dream of the sea...
And you

This was beautiful, and delightful. You have a way with words. I loved the line:

Like a ship in water"

Lost.....thank you very much. I had some good inspiration for this piece and the inspiration makes the poem.

Some great images in this one Hoot! I agree with Jim try to get this one published! I expecially love...

"Oh, how I envy the sea
Rocking you to sleep in it’s body each night
It’s wetness clinging to your skin by day"

and

"I long to fit into your arms
Like a ship in water"

Really enjoyed this Hoot, whoever inspired you must really be good!

ahhh. What a nice relaxing poem. Unfortunatly, it left that bittersweet (more sweet than bitter though)taste in my mouth just as intended. Well done.

I love this one Hoot...living by the water I am partial to poems with an ocean theme..I have a great affinity with the sea and can totally relate to that feeling of being held in the arms of the sea, being rocked ever so gently to sleep and likening it to a lover's arms. This is full of beautiful imagery and subtle longing...a near oerfect piece! Hope he likes it...how can he not? :-)

Beautiful. I'm afraid that's all i can say about this poem...all other words are lost to me. I love the imagery...I can smell the salty air of the open sea.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful poem.
