DESIRE

I am a many-faceted stone
hidden deep in the ink-black
caves of the soul.
I am an essential part of every man
and I have many names.

I am the gnawing hunger
that rumbles in the pit
of your stomach
and will not be denied.

I am power, ambition and greed.
I am the tie that binds
the hearts of men and women;
I am a thought, a gasp,
a dream.
I am a hand reaching
past its own insecurity
to touch and move another.

I am the need each man has
for human anesthetic,
for flesh to comfort flesh;
And I am the thirst
that slakes its own.

I am a flame that leaps
to consume the sky;
I am a fire,
I burn, I burn!
I am the shape of your deepest need,
the color of the rusty autumn hills,
And I am passion.

I am a voice that whispers in your ear
when you lie in the dark
alone.
I am a nagging thought
when you walk in the cold,
alone.
And when you find someone
who recognizes your need,
I am the careful, slow caress
that undoes you.

I am a turn of the mouth,
a look in the eye,
an unspoken word
that vibrates the air
and shivers down your spine.

I am all the wishes you keep to yourself
and all the wishes that you share.
I am a red bicycle, new rollerskates
a pair of pink shoes
and a job that's always
just out of reach.

I am the grocer's son
the summer you were ten
and discovered your differences.
I am a long sigh loosed from
the lips of your lover
when I claim him with your touch.

I am a priest, a confessor,
a friend and a foe.
I am all of them.
I am all of you.
I am all.
I am.

Beki,
This gave me chills. This is spectacular.
Wonderful work, I know not what else to say to give just due so I'll shut up now.

Intricate and well-woven verse, dear Lady. This one likes me much.

Although I have previously responded to this wonderful poem (as it was posted as a response a while back) I must renew my opinion:This is Great Stuff!Deserves much more feedback than it has recieved.

Thanks again Paul...BIG HUG!!!!

PS I didn't see that response...do you remember which thread it was in? I can't recall the title of that poem though I remember posting it because the poem was so similar. :-)

My DESIRE is for more responses to this poem so before it gets lost in the shuffle I am shamelessly bumping it to the top (seem to be a lot of people reading now :-)

Forgive me please?

Beki,Your poem "Desire" was sent as a reply to one of mine,"Empathy",which was posted a week or so ago.
I'm glad that your poems are getting at least a little of the attention I feel they so naturally deserve.

OK, I read this poem for two reasons:

1) I have been reading every one of your posts, Beki, and I have yet to find one I don't like.

2) I just posted a poem with the same title in the adult forum ... LOL ... the title caught my eye, then I saw it was by you, so I simply had to read it!

Well done, as usual. More please?
