I lay quite numb beside my wife
Breaking news broke through the den
Watching TV in our humble life
The media frenzy called us in

The banner said eight shots were fired
I nudged my wife and began to rise
"Another fool I'm sick and tired"
But I was drowned amidst her cries

I sat back down and watched amazed
Faces flashed by that I once knew
The church where my wife was raised
A killer lay slumped in the pew

Live reports with nothing real to say
Plastic men pretending they care
Columbine seemed so far away
I never thought I'd be taken there

(this all just happened tonight eight are dead including the gunman and the police have sent a robot in to see if there are any explosives on the gunman... His motive: He hated Baptists...)

So many lives lost... A church should be a place of peace and I don't know what to say..

I agree with RainbowGirl a church is sanctuary. Such tragedy over nothing.
Hope your wife is dealing ok now.

The sickness grows...Columbine, a gunman with hate in a place of worship..another in a daycare center...our children are dying. My heart is breaking.

Walt, I'm sorry for the anguish you and your wife must feel. My thoughts are with you both.

Walt,
So sorry this happened so close to you, one never knows what makes one snap to do such horrible things. My prayers go out to your family, and all the others so closely involved.

I couldn't believe my ears - again. Such a terrible tragedy. It makes you quite weary.
And so sad for the families of the victims.
Such a horrible waste.

How sad! The violence seems to be escalating all over the world! A Baptist church with teenagers! A daycare center! A high school! And look at what's happening in Moscow...daily a building is blown up by some terrorist group! Can't we live in peace?
