(I never truely appreciated all the sacrifices my mother had made for me through the years until I became a mother myself...this is dedicated to the most unselfish, loving woman I know..my mom.)

I saw them on her back again
Though others may not see
I guess that I first noticed them
When I was two or three

At first I knew not what they were
Or if they were real for sure
But as time went on and I got old
I saw them even more

They grew in length as time went by
Spanning more from year to year
At times they got so heavy
For my loving mom to bare

Each day I saw their color
Seem to change to brighter gold
She acted it they were nothing
For my mom was never bold

Sometimes I did not see them
But I am sure they were still there
I guess my eyes were blinded
When I was selfish and did not care

But mom she'd spread her wings
And use them to hold me tight
And soon I 'd see those wings again
Often in a different light

She made so many sacrifices
Always giving of her self
She bore the weight of those great wings
For everyone including myself

My mom she is an angel
For this I finally see
She was sent down from the heavens
To take good care of me

So if you see my mother
Be careful of her wings
She's carried me through life so long
On those fragile little things

What a beautiful poem! A lovely way to pay tribute to your mom.

Sis,
How very true. Our mom is truly an angel. I have loved this piece from the first moment I saw it.

Milady, This is truly beautiful, an excellent tribute to your Mum. I don't know how I missed this.
