Dr. Jekyll, dear and kind,
a gentleman in his own
right, never to mind.
A practitioner and healer
a gentle soul's master,
not a poor man stealer.
Ladies he holds much respect;
opening doors, gracful manner,
nodding his hat when he detects
a fair maiden near, a gesture there
in this man is an honorable peer.
Don't blink your eyes or you will see
Mr. Hyde awaiting aimlessly...
for a coward to be.
His essence isn't much
his datardly ways and deceiving us,
a murderer of a spirits touch.
Rapist behind closed doors
never look back -
or you'll find him aboard.
Do you know this man I speak?
For if you have his acquaintance
I plead of this for you to keep:
At no time give this man the key
to your heart or your home
and especially if your name is Marie.
Today a man discovered gold and fame,
Another flew the stormy seas;
Another set an unarmed world aflame,
One found the germ of a disease.
But what high fates my path attend;
For I-today-I found a friend.
