She strides across the farm land,
With purpose in her eyes,
Surveying likely spots,
with the expertise so wise.
The coming decision will surely be
the most vital of the day,
No little things will be allowed
to stand in nature's way.

She does her job as one possessed
with total dedication,
Aware of responsibility
for the future of the nation.
There can be nothing left undone,
In this so important inspection,
To gather relevant data
for soil content correction.

"This seems the correct size and shape,
and texture, scent and feel.
I'll give this bit a little nudge,
to make sure that it's real.
I'd say it needs a little more,
just up there to the right,
And maybe to the side a bit,
but I'll do that tonight."

The barren soil awaits renewal,
quiet, unafraid,
At last, she takes three steps ahead
with the decision made,
And with her tail held high and straight,
in her usual salutation,
she makes todays deposit
to the rebirth of the nation.

And then, and only then,
her patriotic duty done,
She returns to join the other sheep,
Grazing in the sun.

Then she walks back to the sheep herd,
Always on the lookout,
She never knows when Balladeer,
may be looking for a "rear" mount.

A pretty serious poem with a good message, and then... Zing! I'd have to say that was a well aimed shot. As always, most enjoyable. Thanks again Toe.

Yes, Toerag, quite the unexpected twist! I was first thinking that is so wonderful the way you took such a simple subject and seemed to put it to rhyme with ease!

"Odi et amo. Quare id faciam, fortasse requiris. Nescio, sed fieri sentio et excrucior."

HAH! He puts nothing to rhyme with ease, one voice! Toe, I thought you were the one always in arrears. The cows have been talking about your dairy-air!

Comin' after ya, fruit despoiler. LOL!

Toe's derriere is being discussed??? What a lovely topic!! LOL.

Toerag: This is wonderful! I love it!!! Continuing to make her contribution to this fine land of ours under such adverse conditions... knowing she and her kind are under constant surveillance from the lawless Baaaaalladeer!!! What courage! LOL.

Good poem but I'm afraid once more you've disturbed the killer bee.
