Oh graceful land I've never seen
Your gentle hills of rolling green
Oh lovely land before me spread
Those cobbled paths I long to tread!

Your peaceful pastures - so serene
I yearn to see that tranquil scene
Your dew-kist meadows - clover fills
Your sandstone castles - my heart stills!

And on my mind will ever be
Your rising cliffs, your misty shore
Oh Emerald Isle on the sea
You'll call to me forevermore!

Oh charming land of leprechauns
The 'pot-O-gold', the Blarney Stone
Oh Isle of green - my heart you own
At end of day and when it dawns!

Oh graceful land I've never seen
Your cobbled paths I long to tread
Oh lovely land before me spread
Those gentle hills of rolling green!

Oh Emerald Isle on the sea
Yes, even still, you call to me
Oh Emerald jewel of the sea
Yes, even still, you beckon me!

(Thank you, Craig, your poem reminded me that I had this one. It was one of my first ones)

The pleasure was all mine, believe me, have you any more gems like this one stowed away?

I like this one too! I would love to go to Ireland. The imagery in this one is excellent.

Why, thank you Craig and Elizabeth! I'm so glad you liked it. (I liked Craig's better, though!) I'd love to visit the land of my ancestors, but alas, I don't have the cash!
I don't think I could endure the eight hour flight either! But I can dream!

Craig, I have about 80 or so poems altogether, whether they would be considered gems though, I don't know!

Hey, Denise. They're my ancestors, too! Erie, isn't it?

Wonderful poem and a good tribute

Denise,
I live in England (though I am not British) and from there to Ireland it's near. It is exactly as you describe. Its beauty somehow touches even foreigners. It truely is a land of enchantment! You cought its essence really well! And.... that was your poem first ever?? MAN! Wow!

Why, thank you Angel, I'm glad you liked it! It was one of my first (my 7th actually). My Dad and sister and her family visited in 1995. The pictures were spectacular. And the town folk said it was the best weather that they could remember ever having! It rained only once the entire 10 days they were there! I'm glad for my Dad that he finally got to go! Thanks, again, Angel! (I wished I lived where you lived!)

Great job "d". You could close your eyes
and feel like you were there.

p.s. I got all your messages...thank you
for being a friend.

Such a charming piece, it reminds me of romantic place one would like to stroll with one’s lover side by side…. Lovely written.

Wonderful Denise, I really hadn't paid any attention to the title, but knew you were talking about Ireland two lines into the poem. Well written, nice imagery!

Beautiful imagery alright! I long to go to the Emerald Isle as you do. It's a feeling in the blood, I know you feel it too.
