I enjoyed making love to you last night.

I enjoyed holding you close to me and feeling
The softness of your skin blend with mine
As it had so many times before.

Your hair was different than I recall - A bit blonder, perhaps
And a contented lifestyle may have added
A pound or two - here and there
I don't care.

Surely you could sense how I'd missed you
By how I kissed you
And touched you
And clung to you.

I knew it was you.

Even though you looked at me strangely
As I whispered your name
I wasn't fooled.

I knew it was you because
It was your name on my lips
And your voice in my ear
And your thoughts in my heart.

I don't know why you looked at me so strangely
In the early morning light
Or why you left so quickly
Without turning without speaking
But I know you'll come back. You always do.

Your hair may be a different color
Perhaps you'll change perfume.
Perhaps I may not notice
As you walk into the room.

But as I Iay beside you,
One fact will still hold true
That, every time that I make love,
I'll be making love to you.

(sigh!) it's sweet, and too bad she leaves...but good she comes back always. They can't resist a good man...

This is exquisite! Both romantic, wistful and sad all at the same time. I think (I'm no expert at interpretation, by the way) that this is saying that no matter who he is making love to at the moment, he's really making love to his 'beloved'. Am I right?
This is really great! ...more,more,more!

Yes, Denise, you have it right. Sometimes, we have that one special person that we can never get over, no matter who we are with. Thank you.

Balladeer...I remember this moving piece very vividly. Thanks for the refresher. I enjoyed it as much this time as I did the last. Sometimes it's hard to let go of our pasts isn't it?

The tears I shed after loving you
are not the tears of love
they are tears of pain,
for it's not you I'm thinking of

Felt inspired by your words...happens quite a bit..your poetry is always thought provoking!

Excellent piece, everybody has someone like the loved one you wrote about, the lucky ones see them for real every day.

Thanks for the repost.

How strange a poem from Sir Balladeer.
The talker is lying. He is not loving  "you". He is certainly loving his best feelings of himself. This is not romance. This is selfishy.

The talker  has not respect of any of "you" but himself.  Trust me, I am always right.
