You have been a loyal friend for many years
But now it is time to lick God's tears.
Your stout solid frame
will now play an angel game.
Those beautiful brown eyes
will now look down from the skies.
When you were feeling blue
my heart would be oh so sad too.
You loved my kids like they were your own
but know you have a new place to call home.
They shall miss you but remember you always,
especially on those quiet, long, lonely days.
Though your time here was much to short,
we know now you share a higher court.
Now that your pain is no more
forgive me please for this chore.
To let you live like this would have been unkind,
but the thought of this will linger in my mind.
If giving you this love and peace I have is wrong,
then I will suffer the price until my time comes along.
Farewell to you my courageous friend and remember me well.
The memories I have of you, to all I shall tell.

This poem is dedicated to my dog Elvira our little mistress of the dark. She had a good
heart and did not deserve to have to be put to sleep so young, but due to an inherited
skin disorder I had no choice. Thanks for
this forum and your time

thanx doc
sorry you were misled it is nice to know that
others care and yes it was the hardest choice
that I have ever had to make but it was for
the best since the Vet said that she could
be treated but then she would endure alot of
pain and die a hard death anyway

A very beautiful tribute. I feel for you in the task that was put before you, but you did the best for her. This was very well written and it touched my heart in a way that few posting have. Thank you for sharing.

I feel your pain so vividly in this wonderful tribute to your little friend. I have a little dog and he ranks up there as my best friend. I can't imagine having to let him go like that and don't know if I would have the strength to do it. Vey sad, very touching and very well written.

Wild Child,

Thank you for taking the time to listen to my
pain and I pray that you do not have to ever
go through what I did. Thank you also for
your nice words.

The death of a beloved pet, is always hard. I wrote a poem just today about the death of a neighbourhood cat, we all knew and loved called 'Death of A Friend' go read it if you like.
Remember Elvira daily, she'll always be alive in your heart. Sorry for your loss.

Very nice tribute indeed! I faced that when I was small! We had to decide to put our dog down, growing up with him, this just crushed me. I still think of him often, as I do miss him. You have shown true love to be able to think of what is best for your dog, and I know that is a very difficult decision.
