My cherished dovelets bide
Within my feathered Nesst
To flourish by my side.

When down submits to plumes
So tentative in flight,
They've grace, as lovely loons.

I've taught them how to fly,
And though they now alight
While flitting by and by,

I'd rather see them soar
About in worldly heights.
They'll then learn even more.

From aerie perch on high
With views of every sight,
My doves can reach the sky.

'Tis time to fluff and primp
This empty feathered Nesst
For brooding in the spring.

Very nicely written Nan...sometimes we have to let them fly on their own winds
As the old saying goes
"There are but two special gifts we can give our children:
one of them is roots,
the other is wings"

Nan

Brooding in the Spring? Really? I thought you weren't going to 'brood' anymore. I guess you really ARE young at heart. Incidently, I loved your poem.

ahhhh Nan...if you are as good a mama bird as you are a poet, you have surely raised doves with eagles' wings

Thank you all - sincerely - This poem seems a bit light-hearted, but in reality - My two girls are the "Sunshine" of my life - and they're certainly my greatest success - even more than my poetry, caroline. I raised them alone, and I humbly say that I did it well... This poem actually is one of my personal favorites..... Thanks again, all..

I have a little wooden chest,
Within I keep my treasure's blessed,
Four locks of hair, when first was shorn,
Two boys, two girls, to us were born,
Now they've grown and moved away,
But in wood chest, will ever stay.

Beautiful poem Nan....
