There is a virus going round
A horrible disease.
It causes palpitations and
A weakness in the knees.

It makes your heart beat very fast
Then almost makes it stop.
It makes your temperature rise up high
And then it makes it drop.

It takes away your apetite,
Puts fever in your brain.
Hallucinations form to make
You feel that you're insane.

You forfeit your perception and
You don't know wrong from right
And, in the final stages, you
Begin to lose your sight.

It isn't always fatal. Not too
Many victims died
But, sometimes from the symptoms,
It has led to suicide.

It's spread through personal contact
Orally or otherwise.
Detection's very difficult
The way it can disguise.

It's really been around a while.
It's victims were quite few
But, thanks to new technology,
It flourished strong and grew.

The host has been identified -
A creature rather small
Whose evilness is sly enough
To get us, one and all.

You better heed my warning well.
I tell you on the level...
Be ever on the lookout for
The insidious silver-tongued devil.

Then, I, pray for corruption: Virus, here I come, attack me please!!!...LOL

Well said Balladeer...now what's the antidote in case it's really true?

Lies, all lies! You'll never pin this one on me!

Well done, Sir Balladeer. At first I was thinking "love" but as I got deeper into it... well there you have it, a snake in the grass. Once again, well done!

If it isn't love then what exactly is it?

Oh Balladeer, you have me stumped! Is this love that you speak of? I will have to think upon this one for a while. Great Job!

I thought at first it was poetry, But the last line made me think of Toerag ( you never warned me of this side effect). Either way can I be cured?

Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool:
But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet.

Thanks for the comments.

Elizabeth, WhtDove and Star Fairy 2...a silver tongued devil is a person who lures women with his "silver" tongue, spouting compliments and praises and making promises for the sake of compromising them into giving themselves to him. The only love involved is on their part....not his. As Andrew correctly pointed out....a snake in the grass.

Be wary, listen carefully
to the sound of this snake's hiss
guard your heart, take care!
do not offer him a kiss!

Wonderful, Balladeer! As the poem goes, so goes the poet!

Afraid not, Christopher. Toe could be the silver-haired devil or the sliver-tongued devil but that's about it. Hop over to the Adult and see my latest surprise for him.

'Deer

Soooooo... now you are attacking silver-tongued devils, are ya? I'll have you know I have not used my silver tongue in that manner for several years now. OK. Make that several months. Alright alright alright. Several weeks. Days, you say? Hours? OK! I'm a silver-tongued devil, but I can't help myself (very much). I loved your poem.

Smiling ... Balladeer ... another wonderful poem ... ok ... ok, I know that is repetitious ... but so is the quality of your work ... LOL .. just a small point ... in today's world ... being a "silver tongued devil" is no longer limited to our gender ..

Thanks to all. LongJhn, it's good to have you back, whatever color that tongue is.

Traveler, this poem was written about the female silver-tongued devils. You mean MEN are like that ,too??? hehe

Now I understand. When I first read the poem I thought you were talking about the sickness you get when you are suddenly deprived of a forum!
Maybe I have a one-track mind.
