(Hopefully this isn't too corny, but it actually happened last night)

God Works In Mysterious Ways

My son of 15, a lost child of sorts
So sad and so forlorn
At times he’s cursed his father
And the day that he was born
Last night he sat before me
With tears upon his face
And how I wished with all my heart
His pain I could erase
Just then a sound rose from outside
A tiny, lonely cry
I opened up the door to look
And a kitten ran on by
He entered the house like he belonged
Stripped hair all full of burrs
Jumped into my son Matthew’s lap
Let out a series of purrs
In that moment, something happened
What I can not place
But my son reached out to hold the cat
And a smile broke on his face
“Can’t we keep him mom, “ he said
“He’s cold and scarred you see
He’ll be good, I know he will
And keep us company”
How could I have ever said no
To a request like that
So we went from being just us two
To us two and Sam the cat
Warmth began to fill my heart
From the depths of my despair
Our house began to feel like a home
And life was once more there
They say God works in mysterious ways
I’ve always known of that
But who’d have thought he would work
Through a little gray furred cat

A warm fuzzy both literally and figuratively ... I really got an "awwww" out of this one ...

Having worked with animals extensively, I have seen and marvelled at the power they have with children ... I am sure "Sam" will be an invaluable companion to your son and a valued mamber of your family.

Really enjoyed the read ... it brightened my day ... thank you!

Hoot,
This poem is a treasure and a pleasure to read.
Not only pleased me but filled one very big need. *L*

Hoot_owl this was beautiful! He does work in mysterious ways don't He!? Never quite what we imagine, always keeping us on our toes! I am glad though that you saw this as a blessing, so many people would have explained that away!

Terrific story, hoot. There's something about pets that will do that to us. Angel would be a good name,

Thank you all very much. In less than 24 hours, Sam has made himself a part of the family and for the first time in 9 months, things around here are beginning to get a bit brighter

You will be surprised the comfort that will
come from your new furry friend. My cat sat in my lap for two days after my Grandma passed away.

Lady Hoot: I caught a really great feeling from this one. Well done! I've never owned a cat... I'm very allergic. But I do love them so and those belonging to my friends always seem to search me out. Glad this ones become part of your family.

I'm surprised at all the replies to this one, as far as poetry is concerned, I didn't think this one was really too good

Hoot

It's not always the poetry that counts but the emotions that caused the writer to want to share their feelings with us all...and it was the way that a tiny little kitten changed a small boy's world and made a mother smile again ...YOU!

Well, that's my view..

I think we owe it to "SAM" to put this one back to the top.

Ya got me too on this one Hoot.I've thought for some time now that cats are just angels with fur coats. They demand so little and give so much.

A purrfectly charming piece.
