Dad

He taught me how to throw a ball,
...to stand up for what's right,
Upon the wings of angels,
...he journeys to the light.

He took my hand to lead the way,
...was comfort when I fell,
He is the rock of my foundation,
...I bid my last farewell.

Taught me values, how to live,
...as moral as a preacher,
With misted eyes, I say farewell,
...to one who is my teacher.

He taught me to be courteous,
...that if I try I can,
He taught me how to love; to cry,
...and how to be a man.

Deep within a searing pain,
...for life too soon did end,
As journeys home, I bid adieu,
...to father, my best friend.

Mom

A gentle wind blew cross the land,
Reaching out to take a hand,
For on the winds the angels came,
Calling out a mother's name.

Left behind, the children's tears,
Loving memories of the years,
Of joy and love, a life well spent,
And now to God, a mother's sent.

With saddened heart, a child's farewell,
Regrets of love, forgot to tell,
Mother's whispers from above,
"Twas not words that showed your love."

As flesh departs, deep sorrow's pain,
But mother's love, shall e'er remain,
Inside each child, a mother lives,
For of herself, a mother gives.

On angel's wings, a heavenly flight,
The journey home, towards the light,
To those who weep, a life is gone,
But in God's love, 'tis but the dawn.

This is so true for me, it is beautiful. When I read it I couldn't help thinking, with sadness, about all the people who didn't have parents like that. I can't imagine how bad life would have been without them.

Tim, this is such an absolute tribute to your parents. What a blessing to have such wonderful ones. I did also. And it seems no matter how long we had them, it's never long enough, you are never prepared for them to leave. My mother died when I was young, My dad when I was much older. Both deaths were just as painful. Very lovely poems. They brought tears to my eyes.

Tim, this posting is absolutely beautiful. Such a fine tribute to two who made an imense inpact in your life. From what I have seen here, your parents did a wonderful job in raising you, I'm sure they would be proud.

Tim! I have to get more kleenex! Wonderful poetic tribute to your parents. It shows what wonderful parents they were - to have raised a man like you.

Beautiful...(wiping the tears from my eyes)...it is always hard to say good bye...we take so much for granted...most of us realize that too late. Bravo!

A moving tribute ... may the Lord bless and keep them.

What a beautiful tribute! I can imagine
the tears, as you were writing this with
joyful memory.
