There are so many doors when we start out on life
The keys are the choices we take
They're the doors to the future, to peace, or to strife
And doors to the friends that we make

There are plenty of doors when we leave childhood's home
The future looks easy and fun
We can choose for our study, or art, or to roam
Our journey has barely begun.

But as we grow older the doors become less
The future stops looking so bright
We suffer from lethargy, staleness and stress
We don't have the heart left to fight

Each door that we open determines our track
It closes when we have gone through
From a door that is closed there's no turning back
We must open doors that are new

One day we will come to the very last door
That grim door that each of us fears
Whatever we've chosen, there's one thing for sure
No choice when that final door nears

A beautiful poem Sue, but I don't agree with the last stanza.
Death is not a door to fear. As you state we will all come to it sooner or later.
Death is easy - living is hard.

This is very well done. And filled with so much truth! Loved it!

Thank you both. Michael, you are right, living is much harder, but most people still do fear death when it comes near. It's only when death is staring you in the face that you really get scared - when it happens to the neighbours it's easy to say that it is not a problem.

Sue
I’m with you all the way on the death thing, it scares me closer to it each time I think of it !

Great poem btw.

Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool:
But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet.

Well written Sue...

I agree to both Michael & you on this one..Personally, I believe death is nothing to fear about( you wouldn't crave/fear something you don't know about right??)..I too vote that LIFE is harder than DEATH..

But then again, since we don't know what exactly death is like, the fear of the unknown can be scary..
