In Loves Arms

Drifting off to sleep,
as the darkness closes in around me,
I find myself swaddled
in your arms...
like an infant.
The sound of your heartbeat
hauntingly fimilar,
reminding me of mothers' heartbeat
in the womb.
I wonder, if tonight,
here in your arms;
will the nightmares come,
as always,
refusing to fade with morning light?
Or, will I sleep a dreamless sleep
safe in the confines
of your arms;
waking up refreshed
in loves grasp,
and glory in a new day,
smiling with you beside me?

It's late evening as I read your lovely poem. Wish I had those arms, that heartbeat....very nicely done!

Beautiful, Hoot. I'm curious as to what the nightmares are.

Poet...thank you very much.

Balladeer....the nightmares involve my past life...physical scars heal, emotional scars last longer. If you would like to know more, I'd be happy to share, feel free to e-mail me. Ruth

Hoot well done! From one nightmare ridden person to another, I know what you mean exactly! I always long for the arms that can make my dreams be gentle just for once.
TY for sharing!
