Much dust has clogged my grimy coat
As I trekked along the narrow road,
Carried my heavy burden load
That made me careful and remote,
I've traveled deep within my soul
And kept my silence and control.

I've cried with pain, shed many tears,
Shared joyous laughter in my years,
And seen the fist of wrath appear
That made me tremble in cold fear,
And hide from what I must not see,
the pages... of my destiny.

I've walked across the wide expanse
Of blooming fields and barren lands,
In crystal waters washed my hands,
Ran barefoot through the burning sands,
Stood laughing in the pouring rain,
Tomorrow...I will start again.

I'll rid my coat of dust and grime,
Wear it again, because it's mine,
Care nothing of the years or time,
A new direction suits me fine,
And on I'll go in joy or pain
Today...Today I'll start again.

It's hard to express how this made me feel! It's great! Sad and full of hope...."I've traveled deep within my soul".....sounds like someone has done a lot of soul searching!

This is really, REALLY good work, Woolf. I'll wear the coat because it's mine.....says a lot to me as does the theme of the piece.

Wonderful!!! Could we all be so brave...there is much to be said for washing off the raod dirt and starting anew.

Awesome poem. I really enjoyed it. I, too, especially like the line about wearing the coat because its mine.

I can't believe that someone with your talent actually read one of my poems! This was so great.

Wolfgang,
I don't know how I missed this one, I read all your stuff. I agree with balladeer about the coat line. I think this one of your best.
