Ode to You on Labor Day

Of Labor’s love I’m not at a loss
to know the price and what it cost
to bear witness, to bear child
to bear all burdens small and great
to all of these things I can relate.

On Labor Day there will be celebration
others just now ending vacations
back to home go all relations
and none will be there to remember
why this day came in September.

100 years plus was this day made known
to honor those that daily groaned
under auspice of social and economic achievement
by conflict and battle of man’s prowess went
and to no one man nor nation is this day meant.

The vital force of labor has added to our living
each man and woman has duly been giving
so I will pay tribute to each one with vocation
for your making this a most splendid nation.
To all of you, I fly my red, white and blue!

Excellent poem about a 'misunderstood' holiday - it's not about having babies!

Sunshine, you did a beautiful job on this
piece. Thank you for reminding us what
this day is really about.
