Your hands taught me to pick the lock,
Though you would not hand me the key.
So, I'll wait till you answer the knock,
That I may pass the threshold free.

Till then, I'll stand the opposite side,
Your door securely barred behind me.
Challenging all who would steal inside,
For your treasures I will have solely.

I had to read this one twice. I see you are a gentleman and do not take what is not given. Seems like she gives just a bit of herself, but never the whole thing.

I loved this poem, love can be complex, yes, but your heart waits for the moment to be right

Hope your wait is a short one, and your patience appreciated. Great job, I like it.

Patience is a virtue, and you are a virtuous man. I like it.

Although I adhere to the sentiment behind this work, you'll all be happy to know that I've been happily married for more than six years and have two beautiful children to prove the waiting is long since over. But I thank you all for your kind remarks.

A bit of history if you will allow. My wife and I were good friends in high school, but never a romantic pair. After graduation we crossed paths once or twice, only to loose track of each other for eight years. It wasn't until our late 20's that we found each other again… and this time everything just clicked. If that's not patience (fate?), than I don't know what is. It also turns out our parents shopped at the same market when we were just babies. I guess it was meant to be.

This was way at the bottom, I brought it back to the top, as the re-read was refreshing.
