Nearly buried by the
art of survival
the remembrance was
brought into
the light once again
It remains
the tributary for the
river of longing…
the place where
unfulfilled
destiny hides
The current never
slowed underground
in fact it raged with
white water
in the caverns below
though the surface
remained as
new glass
smooth and unbroken
rippled only by the
occasional raindrops
And the river still flows
searching always
for the sea
yearning to spread
beyond the
narrow borders of
its banks and
become one with
the tide, the waves
the warmth
beyond the dams
built by fear
The scent of
salted air
is caught in the
river's breath
brought by the
nebulous invitation
of the sea

You know - I'm the first in line to read about, or write about the sea - but you've done one better. Every river runs toward the open sea - What a wonderful extended metaphor you present - I absolutely love it.....

Wonderful, Caroline! I have not read much of your work but will begin seeking it out! I love the river and the mountains.... you have written a well crafted poem using metaphor well -- you should be proud of this work.

Closing my eyes ... I can hear the waves break on the shore ... now to just cross that last dune and go swimming ... thank you again.
