I never have a cookie problem when using my computer at work. But most of the time on the home computer, Athena doesn't know who I am when I access the forums. After giving my name and password, it seems to remember for the duration of that session and sometimes even longer. I have tried several times removing the cookies and resetting but it just doesn't seem to help.

The home computer is running Windows 95 with IE 5.something (I think 5.5). Is there something wrong with the computer or me or does it just work this way?

Not a critical problem as I can get around it but it is a nuisance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Pete

Sound like you have persistent cookies disabled, Pete. There's a short article in the Member's Menu/Troubleshooting Guide about crumbled cookies, but here's the pertinent passage for you.

quote:
In Internet Explorer, go to the menu and select Tools, then Internet Options. Click on the Security tab at the top of the resulting popup, then click on the button labeled Custom Level. You'll get anothr popup window. The top part deals with ActiveX contols, so you'll have to use the scroll bar to move down a bit. When you find the two Cookie sections, you'll want to click on "Enable" for both Stored cookies and Session cookies. (You could also select "Prompt," which will ask you each time a cookie is sent to your PC - just don't Disable either of them.)

Ron, your suggestion sounded really good but both types of cookies were already set to enable. I still seem to have the problem. Any other ideas?

Pete
