Er, I just didn't know it was a problem.
Long story version. Standard HTML simply will not display multiple spaces, so they have to be converted to non-breaking spaces, and I was previously doing that when I converted the smilies codes. When we added the prompt to turn off smilies, I later realized that turning them off also turned off the space formatting I put in a long time ago (it's not a standard part of the software). So, I moved that line of code to where I convert the UBB codes. Had you used any UBB codes in your posts, the space formatting would have been preserved, too. However, without UBB codes in square brackets, the code never reached my line to convert spaces either. So, I've moved the code once again.
Short story version: It's fixed.
