Prologue Bright lights. Sirens. The repetitive sound of tearing metal and shattering glass. The screams of hundreds of dying people echoing. She was in absolute agony. Broken glass stabbed at her back like quills on a porcupine. She wanted to move; to escape the pressure on top of her, the crushing weight that was holding her down. The scene played over and over in her mind. So tired. Her bones felt like mush inside her skin. She began to feel a weightlessness overcome her. Yes, Yes! She thought, no more pain, please no more pain. The pain slowly started to lift; she could no longer feel the weight of the hundreds of tons of metal, glass and bodies that was piled on top of her. "ONYX!!" That’s my name, she thought groggily. "Onyx, where are you?" the voice screamed. Who was it? She couldn't remember. She didn't want to. Her mind was too foggy. She couldn't breathe. No matter how hard she tried her crushed lungs couldn't draw in the air she needed to live. She was floating away. "NO! NO! NO! NO!" the voice cried followed by a high keening cry. Don't cry, I am alright, she thought as sweet blackness engulfed her… Chanting. Heat. Something pulling her down. What was happening? Where… “I bind my life-force with yours so that we might become one. I feel you; you feel me. Our life-forces and our souls become united as life bonds for eternity. Be free. Be mine as I am yours.
