Strolling again through the ancient library my eyes fell upon the numberless cases of volumes purporting to be the Aphorisms of the Dead.  So many had written claiming to be the wise dead ones and yet all were discounted as the true authentic source.  But did it matter?  All one needed to have one's aphorisms counted among the numberless aphorisms of the dead was to join the number of their writers.  Death, it seems, was the sure way to do so.

And so I, like so many, was tempted to pen my own text and to count it among the aphorisms, to have it rejected by the living, canonized in the ironic category of "apocryphal aphorisms of the dead," and ultimately to be forgotten as a particular author amongst the throng of the dead.

When living amongst the dead it is best to adopt their customs and to act as one of them yourself.  In this way, they will not disturb you.

I could imagine countless Middle Kingdom citizens of Weiland living in this way, practicing the subtle arts of cynicism and despair whilst nurturing life hidden on the inside.

And ultimately, these people, writing as they might have, were able to join the throngs of the dead in deed and in word.

Life's short.  Think hard!

Wow!  How could this have been neglected?  There are just too many poets and not enought readers.  What a shame.
