Car Parkers

You park your car almost perfectly in the center of the parking space in the mall and go in.  When you return to your car you find that someone has pulled in next to you and they have parked right on the line, favoring your side and you have to tightly squeeze into your car, forcing your door against their car and still barely able to fit into yours.  Some thoughts go through your mind, like if that person were here right now you would give them a piece of your mind concerning how inconsiderate they were, how bad a parker they are. Perhaps they are the worst car parker in the mall on that particular day, definately indifferent, could also be blind or just plain stupid.  What would you do in this situation?  The choices are many but here are a few standard ones: (1)  Pull back your thoughts about bad parkers and squeeze into your car and go.  (2)  Place a sticker that you have made especially for these moments onto the windshield of the offending car that says "Congratulations, you win the worst car parker of the day award."  (3) As you push your car door nicely against the other car you take your car key and scratch the paint of the other car, to show your displeasure.  I have had to make one of the above choices many times and which choice do you think that I made?  Which choice would you make, or have you made?  The next time you hear a friend telling you that their car was keyed at the mall what they are really doing is revealing their parking skills, or should I say their lack of parking skills...

James

When I have the time to spare & find this has happened to me, what I like to do is this.....I write a note and place it under the wiper blade saying " I am really sorry but I ran into your car whilst parking. The people that witnessed this are watching me write this & think I am leaving you my details. I am not, if you had not parked so badly, your car would not now be damaged" then I sit & wait for them to come back and circle the car 4 or 5 times looking for the non existent damage.Sad I know, but hey, what can I say??

Cheers

John

Thanks for the response John...seems like a good idea...or how about ripping off their license plate...last time my girlfriend visited I was sitting in my car waiting for her to come back and I watched a woman pull into the stalls in front of me leaving plenty of room on her side to get out of her car, but leaving perhaps a foot on her passenger side.  I was interested in seeing how that person parked on her passenger side was going to get into their car...perhaps from their passenger side...and I was wondering if she would be upset concerning this situation...unfortunately my girlfriend came back and we left before I could watch the drama...James

Dear James, thank you for the smiles! You touch on a problem I am daily confronted with. What you have missed watching is something I have performed many times, doing the acrobatics within my car, entering from the passenger side, because one of those "cornuti" made it impossible to enter at the driver's side ... Besides calling them "cornuti" I would never damage their car. But it is something that makes me angry, because I am very careful always in considering the needs of the others ... Even if I am lucky and still find a free parking place in the garage of the Bank where I work, the risks are high that I find small damages without ever a note to say sorry ... There are "cornuti" everywhere!!! Sometimes when I park along the sidewalk/pavement, they squeeze me so tightly, that I have to manoeuver for "half an hour" to succeed in getting out without touching the two "cornuti"'s cars ahead and behind of mine ....
I think John's solution is good, but of course one never has the time to wait for this opportunity!!!
The worst thing that recently happened was my car covered with splashes of mud (after a rainy day). Must have been a bad behaving dog/or his owner walking him on the adiacent green space. I needed a hanky to open the door and headed immediately to a car washer center, I couldn't see a thing outside the left side!!!! ... and so I was late.
I wish of course people were more respectful! But I refuse to let others ruin my day ...
Ciao!

Thank you Margherita for the wonderful response...I appreciate your views...whether a person reacts with words or actions is merely an expression of their personalities...I think men tend to be a little more forceful in situations such as this...and I do appreciate those that take action when other drivers are inconsiderate...whether it be having a conversation with the other driver, leaving notes or leaving a permanant reminder of their displeasure...all of these things which could have been avoided if the offending driver would take the time to park correctly...James

James,

Thanks for the read. I've allowed my door to touch other vehicles so I could squeeze myself past stupidly parked cars, but I don't have the heart to purposely do damage.

Reading this got me day-dreaming about the acrobatics involved, and I wrote a poem about it - it is posted in Open Poetry 42.

MJ I read your poem and it was fun...you are under no obligation to harm someone else's car...but please park straight...for my sake, for your sake...James
