(This is a super-special poetic prose piece I wrote just when I started to write poetry prolificly, during the 2000 Christmas season, in its un-edited form.

I'm considering re-writing this in a poetic meter for next Christmas, but here's the original version for y'all, posted for the first time in seven years! )

St. Lightfoot And The Golden Partridge's Gift
By: Noah Eaton
12/20/00

Once upon a day before Christmas, in the hanging mistletoe forests of Christmintinnia, the enchanted Village Of Joy And Sharing found deep inside the diamond eyes of a snowflake
There lived a merry, kind magician by the name of Northstar Lightfoot, who used his wizardry abilities to share the magic of Christmas spirit every year, straight from his candy cane wand
He always wears a cheerful smile on his soft peach face and wears red, yellow, and green striped pajamas, a mistletoe vest, and spectacles over shiny amber eyes
He lives in a gingerbread cabin atop a gumdrop mountain with his wife Gloria and his beagle Holly with a roof of graham crackers smothered with vanilla frosting surrounded by tall mistletoe trees and holly shrubs

When he was a child, he had a dream that Santa Claus and the Christmas Gods had come to him under the one and only golden pear tree, declaring that he was chosen by Santa to spread the joy of Christmas to the world
Because he was born under the magical star of Polaris of the North Pole, and the star became brilliantly flavescent as he looked up at that star in the sky, glowing bright from the love of his heart
And only one boy for every generation could possess the ability to make this phenomenon possible,
The Gods of Christmas would say
And so he was given the name Northstar and the young boy grew and grew, all the way into his adulthood, breathing blizzards of love and sharing and making children happy, all with the magic of Christmas

But one morning before Christmas, in Santa's Workshop in the heart of the North Pole, Santa's schedule was unfortunately not going according to plan
The legs of his sleigh were frozen over and broken apart, and the elves were in no sight of repairing the sleigh before the evening came around
Santa knew that he would need a helping hand if he was going to deliver all the gifts and toys for all the girls and boys on time
So he walked out into the northern lights, delivering his urgent message to the one who could help save this Christmas

Up in the mistletoe forests of Gumdrop Mountain above Christmintinnia, Northstar and his green and red furred companion Holly were gathering winter berries and cinnamon for Gloria to make her homemade pies
When at that moment, the northern lights gleamed through the gray whispering clouds and Santa's message spoke through the lights enchanted girandole
As Northstar listened, he knew he had to act quickly, but as the northern lights disappeared after he had spoken, Holly had started running off from him, leaving him determined to catch his friend first
He chased him off into the Mistletoe Wilderness, further than he had ever went before, until all a sudden, he stopped to see him sitting and wagging his tail in front of that one, magical, pear tree he had always longed to see

He looked down under the glimmering light of the tree to find a pure golden egg larger than the size of an ostrich egg, which shimmered with beautiful golden light that reflected upon the sky
Amazed by the beauty of this egg, Northstar and Holly decided to return home with the egg and nurture it as he thought of ideas to help Santa and Christmas
Gloria helped Northstar incubate the egg by setting it aside the fireplace, laying it on a soft pillow made of silk and tinsel
And in no time at all, the egg was beginning to shake, and only a moment later, the egg had hatched, a small burst of sunlight flaring out of the shell…

Northstar and Gloria held each other as they stood back from the egg, watching as a beautiful golden partridge the size of Santas sleigh hatched from the shell
They leaned over slowly, touching his soft feathers on his back slowly, the bird completely tamed and had total comfort to it's surroundings, even licking Northstar's hand as a sign of affection
Then Northstar thought, "Maybe Santa and I can save Christmas with the help of this graceful, lovely partridge"
Gloria having heard his husbands incredible idea checked the bird fully, and she said it was completely healthy, and somewhat magical

With a heart of gold and a brave new soul, Northstar kissed Gloria goodnight and gave a merry farewell to Holly as he hopped up on the partridge's soft back, prepared to fly to the North Pole
Where he would meet Santa once more, helping him spread Christmas cheer across the world with the help of his new companion
And so Northstar waved goodbye to his loved ones as he soared off with the bird into the dusk sky, flying at an incredible speed even quicker than a rocket
In no time at all, Northstar had sighted the North Pole, and right at the heart of it stood Santas Secret Workshop

Santa cried in complete joy as he gazed at the beauty of this golden bird, and immediately agreed that it would be the perfect way to travel and share Christmas love and magic everywhere
Wasting no time at all, Santa grabbed his magic bag and hopped aboard with the loving magician atop the partridge, eagerly prepared to embark on a ride they would never forget
Together, they soared off into the sky like a burning shooting star, flying all across the world, delivering all the presents to all the children and families of the world
Every gift delivered on time, a smile on love on everyone's face, as the magic of Christmas was made again, thanks to the help of Saint Lightfoot

The partridge that you see on the pear tree is a symbol of appreciation to the wonderful deed this magician performed some undetermined time ago. Santa's sleigh has ever since been as good as new, but through the eye of that snowflake, Mr. Lightfoot continues to smile at us throughout the holidays…
