What's this about

Poetry indulgers becoming meager, shadowy, anxious, leaping into creativity.  With Poetry as our ally and teacher, we see not through two eyes, but through the many eyes of intuition.  With intuition we are like the stardust, we gaze at the world through a thousand eyes. Poetry carries the medicine of stories, words, and songs, all the mending tools necessary, signs and symbols. Poetry is both vehicle and destination. It is the essence of the written soul.

No matter how many times it is cut back or called unsafe, dangerous, useless or mad, poetry rises through the psyche regardless. Poetry is the one who thunders in the face of injustice. It is the one who keeps us going when we think we're done for. Poetry is fluent in the languages of dreams, images, passion and love. No act of love or social justice or injustice occurs without it. Poetry lives in people everywhere; in the ghettos and in mansions; in the prison and on the river at a fireside; in the penthouse suite or on a night train home.

Poetry is the stardust of emotions, the goblin wind of creativity. How wonderful it is that Poetry leaves footprints (thanks to you) for us to try on for size. Whether you are enchanted, or under the spell of a simple heart or the ambitions of an astronaut, whether you are trying to make it to the top or just make it through tomorrow, whether you be spicy or somber, regal or roughshod all sides from wild to tame Poetry belongs to you. Poetry truly belongs to all. The issue is simple. Without us Poetry dies. Without Poetry we die. As circumstance has it, both must live.

All are born gifted. To live close to the instructional nature of Poetry does not mean to become undone. It means to find one's self, be in one's body with certainty and pride. It means to act in one's behalf, to find what one belongs to. It means to rise with dignity, to proceed as a spiritual being who is friendly but never tame.

Dale,
Yuppir, I like this. Nice to see you rattlin' around the place. I was born up near your neck of the woods.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I agree!  Great piece.  I haven't written poems in years, but when I did, it felt like a part of my soul needed to escape to paper.  Must be the power of the muse.

Hm...  I don't know what the challenge was about but I do agree with what you've said here about poetry.  I particularly liked your discussion of the art surviving despite being cut back and maligned for being impractical and even insane.

Life's short.  Think hard!
