I had wished from many shores for tomorrow to come. The rice fields of Korea made thoughts of you seem more like a story I kept trying to convince myself had happened in another life. I had never felt more distant from you than I did then. Lonely had a face in Pohang. I saw him again in Australia, and Guam. I thought he looked a little like me, and you. I guess we both knew that debt collector. He wasn't satiated by check or money order. His calls stopped only after he took all of our time. I should have sent in the payment....

Here we are, strangers. I guess that tomorrow should have taken a little longer to get here. Maybe I would recognize you. Perhaps you wouldn't resent me. I would take it all back if it would make you 3 again. I missed your first day of school. That was tomorrow, 9 years ago. The only first I had with you was your first breath. I see you take that gasp every day. In that hospital room in Portsmouth, Virginia, I had no idea that the tiny hand I held would be thousands of miles from my own, but still reaching out for me. I feel you sweetie. In every breath I take, I feel you.

I will call you again, tomorrow. I hope it slows down this time. I want so badly to catch it, just once.

Have a good day at school, sweetie. Daddy loves you.

Kris,
Well you succeeded in packing much emotion into this write. I liked it and hope to see some more prose from you. If indeed it is true may you find courage to face tomorrow.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Kris,

You certainly have a way with words and you are very in touch with your emotions.

Tomorrow is always "The Lady in Waiting".  We never know what she will bring...we just always look forward to her.  I hope that she visits you soon and closes the gap between you and your daughter.

We are reaching out for our children when they are small to keep them from trouble, and again when they are grown to bring back their youth and ours. I liked it. It said something.
